LEBANESE BREAD

A gift from Shoba...
 
Lebanese bread...
with filling...
Yesterday, the meeting at Syahmi's school went well. It was a meeting to decide about the Year 6s trip to Durban next year in March. Every year, Hillview School Year 6 students will have a chance to travel abroad, of course on our own expense though. And yesterday, when Mrs Pitcher, the sports teacher who is in charged of this trip handed out the programmes that they had planned to do, I am very happy with it. It seems the children will be very busy in that 12 days trip. But the cost is quite high per child. So all the parents involved, will have to sit together and plan how to raise money to reduce the cost. The fund-raising meeting will be next week.

This morning, I followed the driver to drop the kids to school. At Syahmi's school, I met Mr Yadawad (Deepti's dad and Shoba's husband). He passed to me this Muruku maker Shoba got from India...a present for me he said....OOOoooo I am so very happy and grateful. Thank you my dear Shoba for the gift. How very sweet of you to remember me during your holiday.....

And for today's recipe, I'd like to paste this Lebanese Bread recipe I got from the net. You can refer the actual recipe here. Browsed for this recipe after Fatin requested this bread. She had tasted it at school and she actually bought one for me to taste. When I made it, she said, there's a slight difference. Anyway, to me, it's nice and soft. But I am yet to wait another recipe for this bread from Naseem who had asked it from her Lebanese friend. I made this bread and put the filling inside. The filling may vary to your liking....



LEBANESE BREAD

Ingredients :

16 g yeast (about 4 teaspoons yeast)
2 tablespoon sugar
3 cups flour
1 cup water (or more)
1 teaspoon salt
fresh milk ~ for brushing

Method :

1. Place flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a mixer. Mix well.
2. On the mixer and slowly pour in the water.
3. Knead till a soft dough is formed.
4. Set in a warm place to rise until doubled in bulk.
5. Punch down the dough. Divide into 6 to 8 round balls.
6. Place on a lightly floured surface. With a rolling pin, flatten into 1/4 inch thick circles.
7.Cover with kitchen towel and let it rise again for 15 - 20 minutes.
8. Brush with milk.
9. Heat the oven to 200 C for about 10 minutes.
10. Place the bread on baking sheets and bake for 8 minutes or until puffed up.
11. Then turn over so that the other side will be browned as well.
12. When the bread is slightly warm, place them in a plastic bag (I used Ziplock bags) to soften.

Note :

1. I've altered the recipe slightly, just as how I did it that day. When doing this bread, I've forgotten to brush with milk.
2. For the filling, I made the karipap filling without the diced potato.

Mama..kakliza baru cadang nak beli acuan amruku tu akt Pekan Rabu Alor Setar balik raya nanti sebab nak buat mee laksa sendiri.. dan juga nak buat maruku..nampaknya Mama dah dapat dulu..bla nak main ngan toys baru ni..nampak banyak betui toys baru...

fuyoo sedap2 belaka makanan kat sini...tapi bahaya lah tgk bulan ramadhan ni...membuatkan saya terliur dan perut bebunyik je...tapi the good thing is boleh belajar a lot nak masak apa time buka puasa.

Marukku maker tuh nampak mcm berat jer.. Alamaks... lauk-lauk yg Mama hidangkan kat FP menggugat iman ler... Sab paling suka hati ayam goreng + timun masak air.. Roti lebanese pun nampak menyelerakan....

p/s: Sab try buat roti jalan smlm 'kuchai's style', tapi tak jadik-jadik.. sampai rasa nak nangis.. hampir2 nak buang terus adunan tepung tuh.. Sab tak pandai menebar kot atau bancuhan tepung tuh tak betul.. Sab sempat tepon mak, pastuh mak kata jgn buang.. buat lempeng jer.. alahai Mama, teruknya lah Sab ni.. so roti jala.. blacklist!
