This is my 200th entry in this fotopage. It never occured in my mind that I'll reach this page without running out of recipes to paste. In fact, I still have a number of recipes in queue, waiting to be posted. If not because of Kak Liza, all these will never be possible. I thank you Kak Liza from the very bottom of my heart for all the moral support, encouragement and for always being there when I need you...What will I do without you my dear sister....thank you..thank you very much.....

Before Kak Liza introduced me to Forum Cari and Fotopages, my menu for the day is very limited. With that limited choice, I cook over and over again. But alhamdulillah, my hubby and my children never make a big fuss out of it. For that, I'm blessed!

For this entry, I'd like to share with you the excitement I felt last Monday. I've acheived something that I never thought I'd be able to do and what's more, it not so difficult to do at all! I made my own TOFU! Well, to some, maybe it's not a big deal, but to me it is! Thanks Norfiza for everything! Nor had sent me the recipe and the ingredients together with the mould, when she was still in Zimbabwe. But at first glance, I thought it's a lot of job to do. So I just kept it nicely in the pantry. Then when I came across Muni's page where she had tried making her own Tofu, I just had to try it myself! Hassle or no hassle, I'm going for it! To my surprise, it's not a hassle at all! Why did I wait this long to try. Even Nor is no longer in Zimbabwe. She's in Jeddah now! So here's Nor's simple recipe, how to make your own Tofu at home....



HOMEMADE TOFU

Ingredients :

500 g soya beans
4 litre water
1 tablespoon Epsom Salt dissolved in 1 cup water

Ice cream container, cut the bottom (as per photo)
Sieve
Muslin cloth

Method :
1. Soak the soya beans overnight.
2. Wash the soya beans and divide to 4 portions.
3. Blend each portion with 1 litre of water.
4. Pour the blended mixture through a sieve.
5. Boil the soya juice in a big pot. Keep stirring to prevent it from spilling out of the pot.
6. When boiling, pour in the Epsom Salt mixture. At this stage, the milk will start to curdle immediately.
7. Remove from heat and leave for an extra 5 minutes.
8. Place the icecream mould, covered with the muslin cloth by the sink so that the water will flow out easily.
9. Pour curdled mixture on to the muslin cloth.
10. Cover the mixture with muslin and place something heavy on top to set.
11. Once harden, cut the tofu to the shape you wanted and store in a container filled with water in the fridge till needed.

TAHU SUMBAT

Ingredients :

4 pieces tofu
cucumber ~ shredded
carrot ~ shredded
oil for frying

Method :
1. Fry the tofu till golden brown.
2. Remove from oil onto the kitchen towl. Leave to cool.
3. Cut the fried tofu into two (will produce 2 triangles).
4. Make a slit in the middle of the cut tofu and stuff with shredded cucumber and carrot.
5. To be served with chillie sauce.

Chillie sauce (my cousin's version)
Chillie paste
1 garlic ~ crushed
Tomato sauce
Chillie sauce
sugar
salt
water

Method :
Place all ingredients in a small pot and bring to boil.


My projects this evening.....
    1. I made 22 pieces of roti canai to eat and the balance to freeze
    2. We (me and Fatin) made 2 version of Chocolate Chip Cookies, one of them is a new recipe! Will post it later....
    3. A Malaysian kuih called Bingka Berlauk, again, courtesy of Kak Liza. She gave me the recipe while we were chatting online

1. Dapat satu bekas icecream yang 1 liter tu, dengan ketebalan 1 inci. Kalau makan sorang dan baru nak try buat, mama rasa buat setengah resipi okay kot.
2. Buat air kacang soya senang je, rendam kacang soya semalaman, blend dengan air, tapis, masak atas api dan masukkan sehelai dua daun pandan. When boiling, masukkan gula secukup rasa. Siap. Tapi tu la, mama ingat nak experiment dulu, nak tahu exact amount for each ingredients. Kalau dah buat, insyaAllah mama tepek ye....

Kalau for the kids, mummy buatlah chocolate mini muffin, popcorns, sosej rolls, piza pinwheels, cookies, Donuts dan jelly. Hehehe, cakap lelebih kang, orang kata nak promote masakan sendiri pulak! Apa yang mama cadangkan tadi tu, senang dibuat dan ada yang boleh dibuat in advance. Good luck na...tak sabar nak tengok entry mummy pasal birthday bash tu nanti!

12. nic>>Buat roti sosej tu, kalau uli dengan tangan, mesti lama sikit around 20 minutes. Tapi kalau dengan mixer, mama selalu uli 10 minutes je. Bila dah bulatkan, let the dough rest for about 10 minutes, then shapekan jadi tali dan lilit pada sosej. Perap sampai naik double the size. Bakar jangan lama sangat, sampai dah golden brown on top, terus keluarkan dari oven and straight away sapu majerin on top. Biar sejuk sikit dalam 10 minutes or so, then simpan dalam container. Buat half adunan dulu tau...jangan serik, cuba sampai berjaya ok!

haaa... home made tofu myself dok berangan nak buat taufu fa sendiri (nak buat tofu tu belum lagi la) tapi masih tak berjaya cari bahan utk keraskan taufu fa tu. guna the same "epsom salt" ke? err.. nama common dia amende?

tahniah Mama sebab dah pandai buat tofu sendiri...tapi kakliza maleh la nak buat of sbb kakliza ada supplier tofo ..kawan buat..3 keping RM1.00,,besar dan sedap ..so kakiza save masa buat tofu tu dok adap tenet dan sembang masak ngan geng masak..
n hampas tofu tu kakliza pernah dengar ada akwan cakap boleh buat pegedil..

What is Tofu actually? Sab tak pernah dengar, tak pernah tengok (nih 1st time ler) and tak pernah rasa lah... warna putih mcm tuh?? ehmm Sab ada makan kuih yg seakan2 tofu nih tapi Sab panggil kuih kertas.. dibuat dari kelapa yg diparut rasanya... But, the 'Tauhu Sumbat' tuh mmg Sab suka sesangat.. tapi Sab suka makan dgn kuah kacang.. bukan dgn sos.. Tue 15-Aug-2006 06:24

I've never had tofu before, but i've seen them make it in factories on tv. They were saying how tofu soaks in any type of seasoning very easily, i'll have to try it one day
