For today's recipe, here's Shepherd Pie. Got this recipe from Forum Cari (as usual!), posted by Speedial. Thanks to Speedial for this lovely, delicious and easy to make recipe. Though it doesn't look nice and tempting in this photo, but believe me, it's yummy. Well promised....

Mashed potato

8 potato ~ peeled, cleaned and boiled till soft
4 tablespoons butter
2 eggs ~ slightly beaten
200ml fresh milk
1 teaspoon pepper
salt to taste

Method :

1. Boil potato till soft and mash.
2. In a pot, heat butter, milk, salt and pepper. Let butter melt then remove from heat.
3. Add the egg into the mashed potato and mix well.
4. Pour in the liquid and stir till well mixed/

400g mince meat
3 onions ~ diced
2 carrots ~ diced
2 tomato ~ diced
2 tablespoons tomato sauce
2 tablespoons soya sauce
salt to taste
oil for frying
mixed vegetable ~ optional
1 egg yolk ~ for glazing

Method :

1. Heat oil and put in the diced onion. Fry till fragrant.
2. Add in the carrots and minced meat. Let it cook for a while.
3. Add in the mixed vegetable, diced tomato, tomato sauce and soya sauce. Stir well till minced meat are well cooked.
4. Add in salt.
5. Add in flour*, mix well.
6. Remove from heat and ready to use.

How to make Shepherd Pie

1. Put a layer of mashed potato in the pie dish, on the base as well as the sides.
2. Place the filling.
3. Top with the balance mashed potato
4. Use a fork to make design on top then glaze with egg yolk.
5. Bake in a preheated oven at 200 celcius for 30 - 40 minutes or till golden in colour.

Note :
1. I didn't use mixed vegetable. I just used the corn kernal and canned green peas.
2. Didn't realise that I have to add in flour to the filling until I type this there's no flour in my Shepherd Pie! And what's more, she didn't mention anything about flour in the ingredients!
3. I didn't glaze the topping with egg yolk.
4. As I am typing this recipe, I am reading the comments in the forum regarding this recipe. And she said, the mashed potato should not be as soft as mine was (like in my photo). They said to adjust the milk amount. Hmm...oh well...but I am happy with my Pie and there's only 1/4 left!
5. I made half the recipe.

Note from the owner of the recipe : [Ouote] kalu u all nak cuba..terailah adjust mana2 yg patut tang inti dia tu..leh tambah rempah kari ke or anything lah ikut tekak masing2 lah.... oppsss....pasal tepung gandum...I terlupa nak taip kat situ...actually boleh bubuh 1-2 sudu besar tepung gandum ke dalam inti untuk kasi inti tu pekat skit...
