BRIYANI RICE & BEEF BRIYANI
My Recipe Book
Today is my LAZY DAY and I hate it when this 'virus' hits me. Makes me feel helpless, hopeless and all the 'less' that you can think of! After a very simple breakfast which is jemput-jemput, sat with hubby in the TV room watching golf, eventhough I know nothing about golf!!! Just want to keep him company but not for long because after about 20 minutes...the TV was watching me...sleeping...hahaha! What a way to enjoy your Saturday morning in Malawi! What's more, the weather today is so cooling...so it's not totally my fault that I doze off...huhuhu!
Luckily after the nap and after browsing in the net for about 1/2 hour, I felt quite refresh. Maybe the 'virus' is allergic to the recipe websites! Huhuhu! So for lunch today, I made Briyani Rice and Beef Briyani. Followed the recipe from my recipe book. It's Kak Noha's recipe. Both of them...Whatever I'm writing here is based on what I cooked just now. The amount maybe very little because I'm just cooking this for lunch. Dinner...well...we'll see about that when the time comes!
2 cups rice
1 chicken cube
salt to taste
1 inch of cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon margarine
enough cooking oil
1/2 onion ~ sliced
1 small garlic ~pounded
a bit of ginger ~ pounded
1 1/2 teaspoons Briyani powder
1/2 cup milk
1. Wash rice and put enough water like cooking white rice.
2. Crush in the chicken cube into the rice. Add enough salt. Let it boil.
3. When it has started to boil, heat a bit of oil and margarine in a small pot.
4. Add in the spices and the sliced onion. Fry till brown.
5. Add in the pounded ginger and garlic.
6. Add in the Briyani powder and mix well.
7. Pour into the boiling rice.
8. Add in fresh milk, stir well and let the rice cook.
9. Garnish with fried sliced onion.
Last edited 28/9/2006 : I'm sorry about the photo, as it does not go along with the recipe. I can't seem to locate the beef briyani photo, so I'll just paste the chicken briyani photo that I made recently. kira halallah ye...
300g tender beef ~ boiled till tender
4 shallots ~ pounded
1 garlic ~ pounded
1/2 inch ginger ~ pounded
1 inch of cinnamon stick
a bit of star anise
4 teaspoons (heap) Briyani powder
1 tablespoon tomato sauce
salt to taste
zeal (monosodium glutamate) ~ optional
3/4 cup fresh milk
1. Heat oil and margarine and add in the spices and pounded ingredients. Fry till fragrant.
2. Put in the briyani powder. Add the beef stock if any. Otherwise just add a bit of water so that it won't be too dry.
3. Add in the beef.
4. Add in tomato sauce, salt and zeal.
5. Finallly add in fresh milk and let it cook.
Actually you may add boiled potato and tomato...I forgot, maybe because I'm not fully recovered from the 'virus' attack! Huhuhu...excuses!!!
After I'm done with the cooking, it's time for snapping photos. Earlier on, I read a comment from Azhar, giving me the tips as how to go about taking shots. So I gave it a try...and wallah.....I am quite pleased with myself! From there, I got carried away snapping here and there. Just whatever came across, I just snap...because people say...practise makes perfect...so here's some of my 'artwork'...huhuhuu....and to Azhar...thanks a lot for the tips...appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
My improved (if I may say that!) version of my ol' cute camera photos....what do you think?
CINNAMON AND HONEY (Part 2)
Take 1 part honey to 2 parts of luke warm water and add a small teaspoon of cinnamon powder, make a paste and massage it on the itching part of the body slowly. It is noticed that the pain recedes withing a minute or two. Or arthritis patients may daily, morning and night, take one cup of hot water with 2 spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If drunk regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research done at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of 1 tablespoon honey and half teaspoon cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week, out of the 200 people so treated practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.
..to be continued...
