Made this yesterday evening. Got the recipe from Forum Cari posted by Tillingtan. Thanks Tillingtan for the recipe. The taste is like plain rolls so it would be nice to dip in a cup of black coffee for breakfast.


Snail shaped rolls for breakfast, popular among Spanish.
Makes 16 rolls

Ingredients :

225g white bread flour
1/2 teaspooon salt
50g castor sugar
15g fresh yeast
75 ml lukewarm milk
1 egg
2 tablespoons sunflower oil( corn oil)
50g butter, melted.
Icing sugar for dusting, if you like, you can also add a bit of cinnamon powder

Method :

1. Grease baking sheets. Sift flour and salt in a bowl. Stir in sugar and make a well in the centre.
2. Cream yeast with milk, pour into the centre the flour, sprinkle a little flour over the top of the liquid. Leave for 15 minutes or until bubbles can be seen.
3. In a small bowl, beat the egg with oil, add to the flour mixture and mix to a smooth dough.
4. Turn out on to a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes till smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a big ball and place it in a bowl greased with a bit of oil. Cover the whole thing with a clean plastic bag and place in a warm place for 1 hour or till double it's size.
5. Turn doh on to a lightly floured surface . Knock back and divide the doh into 16 equal parts. Shape each piece into a thin rope by rolling it under your two palm until it becomes thin and longabout 38cm long. Pour melted butter in a plate and deep the ropes in to coat.
6. On the baking sheet, curl each rope into a loose spiral, tuck the ends under to seal. Cover with a cling film and leave to raise in a warm place for 45 minuted or until double it's size.
7. Preheat oven to 190 deg. C.Brush rolls with water and dust with icing sugar. Bake for 10 minuted or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack . Dust again with icing sugar and serve warm

Note :
1. I didn't use fresh yeast because I have never used it before. So instead of 15g fresh yeast, I used 6g of dry instant yeast.
2. So my method is slightly different. I just mix the flour, salt, sugar and yeast. Then pour in the beaten egg + oil and lastly, the milk.
3. I omit the cinnamon powder.
