FOGGY MORNING, APPLE PIE BEBOP & ALIBABA PIZZA

Foggy morning

Apple Pie Bebop

BBQ Pizza
It was foggy this morning because it had been raining all night long. I just LOVE the fog. And actually I missed it so much. At our previous house in Mpingwe, it is always foggy this time of the year because that house is situated on highland. And am going to miss this more when we finally go back to Malaysia...one day....

I sent the kids to school today because I need to help my son to bring his projects to class. Before, the sister use to help him bring all this extra baggages but now that they are in different schools, so mom has to take over. On the way home after dropping my son, I took some photos using my almost out-of-battery cute camera! This is what I managed to snap and actually, I'm quite happy with the shots!

For the kids breakbox today, I just pack for them some bread with Nutella spread and Apple Pie Bebop. This apple pie is something like what we can get at McDonalds, the fried version. I got this recipe from Forum.Cari.Com.My. Thank you very much Bebop for sharing this lovely recipe. Mine didn't come THAT crispy because I've used margarine instead of shortening as in the recipe. Maybe next time, I'll try using vegetable shortening and see how it will turn out...

APPLE PIE BEBOP

Ingredients :

2 cups flour
1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chill water (from the fridge)
2 granny smith apples
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 cup vegetable oil

Method :

1. Peel off the apples skin and dice. Add sugar and cinnamon powder. Cook using slow fire till soft. Mash 1/4 of the filling and leave the rest in diced shape.
2. Sift flour and salt. Rub in the shortening to form like breadcrumbs. Pour in water and stir using a fork.
3. Roll about 1/2 cm thick. Cut 8" x 6" size. Put the apple filling in the middle and cover. Put a bit of water at the edge of the dough to let it stick. Press the edges using a fork.
4. Heat the oil using medium heat. Fry the apple pie one at a time for 2 - 3 minutes each side or till golden brown.
5. Enjoy but..BE CAREFUL, FILLING CONTENTS MAY BE HOT!

Note :
For the filling, I used my apple bun filling (the one with brown sugar). And after step 2, I put the dough in the fridge for about 15 minutes before rolling.

For lunch, I cooked Sambal Udang Wan. I learnt how to cook this from my husband's late great grandmother. That time, she used the traditional way of cooking. She'll grind the ingredients using the stone grinder (batu giling) and will cook using the firewoods. THAT makes a lot of difference, taste wise! It's so.....uummmm....yummmyyy delicious!

For dinner, the kids wanted to eat Pizza from AliBaba Takeaway. It has been quite sometime since we had pizza from there, so I ordered 2 large B-B-Q Pizza and was much enjoyed by the kids, including ME!

Liza pernah cuba gak buat pai apple ni... memang sedap.... suami liza memang suka makan apple pie.... dulu sebelum dapat resepi buat apple pie... slalu jugak liza belikan untuk suami liza apple pie kat McD tu. Masa liza rajin buat apple pie ni, intinya liza dapat bekalan dari kawan sekerja sebab boyfriend dia kerja kat Dunkin Donaugh. Memang mabeles rasanya! Thu 27-Dec-2007 06:13
