AGAR-AGAR CAYALAH

Assalamualaikum everyone. May all of you have a blessed Friday.... insyaAllah....

Wah..... mama sounded so full of energy huh! Infact I am....at the moment... you wouldn't know what will happen in a couple of hours later! Ahakss... I think it's because I had ample sleep yesterday. I was 'knocked-out' soon after performing Tarawikh Prayer and after speaking to my Little Boyfriend aka my son Syahmi, on the phone. Spoke to my GirlFriend aka my daughther, Fatin earlier in the evening... can't call her Little as she is taller than me! Hahahaha..... Was so sound asleep until Syahmi phoned me again at 5.15 am and woke me up for Sehri. Normally it's my job to phone him up at 4 am, but this morning, it was the other way round! Fair enough huh! Thank you Boboy......



Let me tell you the story about my yesterday. I had planned to fry rice for Iftaar...and so that was done without any difficulties, alhamdulillah. Then, I wished for something cool for dessert and I opted for agar-agar aka jelly. Went through a school cooking book, which happens to be the same as what Tun had. Spotted this one recipe called Agar-agar Santan. Thought of trying that one out. I read and I read the recipe. It's either the instruction is confusing or maybe I'm the one who's not focusing. But I think it must be me! It's a school book for heaven sake! Surely the instruction is understandable right. That's why I don't have any intention to further my studies! Muahaha....bagus tak mama punya alasan.... alasan sebenar tak sambung belajar sebab malas belajar.....hahahaha......

But I didn't give up, I actually wanted to try that one out. Place the water and the agar-agar in a pot and on the stove on low heat. Continued reading... and after a while, I felt giddy! Oh oh.. is it my blood pressure? Went to check on my bp and walla....it's perfect reading, 111/65. So it must be the instructions then... hahahaha.... Don't fret...let's change to plan B. Looked for another recipe and came upon Agar-agar Keminyan, from the same book. Followed a few steps in the recipe and stopped! Confused! Bear in mind, the agar-agar is boiling in the pot ya......

Relax mama....never fear... we moved to Plan C... Internet! Went through a few recipe and decided to try making the two layered agar-agar, the one with the coconut milk on top and the plain ones at the bottom. But mama's trying to be clever, thought to herself, maybe if I use evaporated milk, it'll taste nicer. And so I used evaporated milk! It didn't separate! Hohoho....can anyone tell me where did I go wrong? Or perhaps, that kind of agar-agar recipe calls for JUST COCONUT MILK and no substitute? Don't worry mama, if it doesn't separate, just make it look prettier and so I added color and essence....wallah... lovely! Once done, I poured the supposed-to-be agar-agar into the pyrex dish. Waited for it to set, but it didn't...that much....

Relax mama.... stay cool... moved to Plan D! By this time, the recipe is no longer from any source, it's totally my made up recipe...so if I post the recipe afterwards, please bear in mind to TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK .....garenti ramai yang takut nak cuba ni....! Hahahaha.... I poured back the supposed-to-be agar-agar in the pot and put it on the stove. Added more agar-agar powder, stir and let it boil once again then removed from heat.... Poured it back in the dish to set. Alhamdulillah this time it sets nicely! It took me 4 plans to arrive to this recipe! But nevertheless, I am happy with the outcome.....What's with the name mama? Well, it's caya to me for not giving up without a fight!!!! And besides....it's Nubhan's tagline....


Moral of the story : Never let one failure leads to the other. Instead, try work it out until you get the best result you can.....kalau kalau dah teruk sangat......surrender je la.....muahahahaha.... apalah punya motivasi ni!

AGAR-AGAR CAYALAH

Ingredients
:

10g agar-agar powder
1 litre water
300g sugar
1 can evaporated milk (400g)
A bit of salt
Strawberry essence
Pink food coloring

Method :

1. Pour water and agar-agar powder in a pot and boil on medium heat.
2. Add sugar and let it dissolve. Stir, once in a while.
3. Add in strawberry essence and food coloring.
4. Dissolve salt in the evaporated milk.
5. When the agar-agar mixture boils, add in the evaporated milk. Stir and let it boil once before removing from the heat. At the stage, keep an eye on the pot as the mixture will spill out of the pot if the heat is too high.
6. Pour the mixture into the pyrex dish. Leave to cool before keeping it in the refrigerator to set.

Bahan-bahan
:

10 g serbuk agar-agar
1 liter air
300g gula
1 tin susu cair (400g)
sedikit garam
Esen stroberi
Pewarna merah jambu

Kaedah penyediaan :

1. Masukkan air dan serbuk agar-agar ke dalam periuk dan didihkan di atas api yang sederhana.
2. Tuangkan gula dan kacau hingga gula larut.
3. Masukkan esen stroberi dan pewarna. Kacau.
4. Larutan garam di dalam susu cair.
5. Setelah agar-agar mendidih, tuangkan susu cair ke dalamnya dan kacau. Biarkan mendidih sekali, padamkan api. Berhati-hati supaya bancuhan tidak melimpah keluar dari periuk.
6. Tuangkan ke dalam mangkuk. Biarkan sejuk sedikit sebelum dimasukkan ke dalam peti ais.
