ORANGE CHIFFON CAKE

 
 
These couple of days had been so hectic for me. Not only the body is tired but the mind is exhausted as well. I feel like I don't have any energy left, making me feel so weak and helpless! That's the reason why I didn't update my page these few days. It all started when the kids school had water problem. Hubby went to fetch them home last Friday. Yeah they were with us, on my birthday which I considered as one of the loveliest gift I could ever ask for. Though there were no celebrations, parties or whatsoever, their presence is more than enough!

Ok, back to our story, on Sunday, hubby wanted to drop the kids back to boarding on his way to his convention's place. Yeah, he went outstation for 3 days. I was reluctant to send the kids home knowing that the water problem has not been solved just yet. I had phoned the school, the teacher, the warden and finally the headmaster himself! No one could give me the sure answer. But hubby insisted to send the kids as he's not confident with my car, in case I have to send the kids back. So with a heavy heart, I packed the kids' stuff and hubby dropped them at boarding. From then on, the kids kept calling and sms-ing me about their condition. There were only a small number of kids in school. Most of them went back home, leaving those foreign students and those who stayed far. My kids were bored, but I told them, they must keep themselves occupied to avoid feeling bored. They musn't keep feeling miserable as that will not help either of us. I was miserable and worried at the same time too. But at least Fatin cheered me up when she said, "Ma, just assume that we're learning our Kemahiran Hidup subject". Good girl! On Tuesday, hubby fetched the kids on his way home as the headmaster had given a green light for us to bring them back. He had said that teaching and learning will only resumed this Monday. Yes... I have my children with me till Sunday! Yipppeee....







Remember my story about being the first to hang out the laundries? Well actually, my victory doesn't stop there! I was the LAST to bring in the laundries as well that day! Wow, that must be my VERY LUCKY day! Ahakss...I won both categories! The FIRST and THE LAST!!! Hahahaha....Hubby came back with the kids and of course with their pile of dirty laundries. Since the day was hot, I decided to put one load into the washing machine. I hanged the clothes at 4pm! Ridiculous or not, that was what I did! And actually, I felt silly when doing that! Hahaha... And hey presto! They dried up nicely and I took them in at 6pm! Round of applause to mama for winning both categories!



Made these yesterday...at least I know that the kids won't be starving at night...hihii....


Ok ok...I got your message! Must be bored with my stories by now huh. We'll move on to the recipe to share. Sorry to disappoint all the savory lovers, as I will again post something sweet. Haven't been trying any new savory recipe lately. I made this cake today. Came across this recipe at Rahaniss's Fotopage quite sometime ago. Thanks to Raha for discovering the recipe and thanks to the owner of the recipe for creating it so that we can enjoy this yummy cake!



ORANGE CHIFFON CAKE

Ingredients :

115g cake flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder

85ml warm orange juice (I used sunquick mixed with warm water)
Finely grated zest of 1.5 large orange (I omit this one)

5 egg yolks + 30g castor sugar + 1/4 tsp salt
5 egg whites + 50g castor sugar + 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
60ml corn oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence

Method :

1. Sieve flour and baking powder.
2. Use hand whisk to whisk egg yolk, 30g castor sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt until creamy and light in colour. Add in corn oil then warm orange juice.
3. Add in flour mixture into yolk mixture lightly. Add in orange zest.
4. Beat egg white with electric beater until big bubbles formed. Sprinkle in cream of tartar and beat until it is white in colour. Add in 50g sugar 3 times (a little at a time) and beat until stiff perks formed. About 8 - 10 minutes for 150w egg beater.
5. Pour 1/2 egg white into flour mixture in (3) and blend well.
6. Pour flour mixture into the rest of the egg white and blend well. Pour into an ungreased chiffon cake tin.
7. Bake at 175C for 45 minutes or until cooked.
8. Invert the cooked cake during cooling process.

Bahan-bahan :

115g tepung kek
3/4 sudu kecil serbuk penaik

85ml jus oren suam (Mama bancuhkan sunquick dengan air suam)
Parutan 1 1/2 biji oren bersaiz besar (mama tak masukkan sebab tak ada oren di rumah)

5 kuning telur + 30g gula kastor + 1/4 sudu kecil garam
5 putih telur + 50g gula kastor + 1/2 sudu kecil cream of tartar
60ml minyak jagung
1/2 sudu kecil esen vanilla
* pewarna oren (mama tambah)

Kaedah penyediaan :

1. Ayakkan tepung dan serbuk penaik.
2. Menggunakan 'hand whisk', pukul kuning telur, 30g gula castor dan 1/4 sudu kecil garam hingga berkrim dan cerah warnanya. Masukkan minyak jagung dan jus oren.
3. Masukkan tepung yang telah diayak ke dalam bancuhan kuning telur. Masukkan parutan kulit oren.
4. Pukul putih telur dengan menggunakan pemutar elektrik hingga berbuih. Masukkan cream of tartar dan pukul hingga gebu dan berwarna putih. Masukkan 50g gula sedikit demi sedikit sebanyak 3 peringkat dan pukul hingga kental. Lebih kurang 8 hingga 10 minit jika menggunakan mixer 150w.
5. Kaupbalikkan 1/2 adunan putih telur ke dalam bancuhan (3) dan kacau sebati.
6. Kaupbalikkan baki putih telur ke dalam adunan hingga sebati. Tuang ke dalam loyang kek chiffon yang tidak digris.
7. Bakar di dalam ketuhar yang telah dipanaskan terlebih dahulu pada 175 C selama 45 minit.
8. Terbalikkan loyang sebaik sahaja dikeluarkan dari ketuhar. Biarkan sejuk sebelum dikeluarkan dari loyang.
