Apam Ice-Cream
Had a nice chat with Erna yesterday. She was in a very jolly mood yesterday being her birthday. And her jollygood mood enlightened my spirit as well. One of the 'chapter' that we chatted about was definately about food. How can we miss that session! She told me, she had copied a recipe from her mother-in-law's recipe book. And me, very well known as Mrs Recipe Collector dot Com, just tried my luck..."Aren't you gonna share it with me?", I asked And wallah...she sent me the recipe straight away! So yesterday evening, I gave it a go.


The taste is just lovely but I must say, it's a job if you are using this paper cone method. It's only recommendable for those who have a high level patience! I almost gave up! But to think again, that I had accepted this challenge, I must go ahead no matter what happens! Erna had said that her mom-in-law had told her, when preparing the cones, you have to leave a bit of hole at the bottom to let the steam through. And both of us were just wondering, aren't the mixture going to drip? I still have doubt to do it, but then again, ah...let's just give it a try. Oh no...it actually dripped! I just steamed 2 cones in the first trip. One cone survived with quite a full apam and the other one, I think 3/4 went into the steamer...hahahaha....But mama didn't give up. I modified the cones by folding the end of the cone slightly to avoid the drips. And I guess it worked better. Once in the steamer, there's nothing else that I could do. The cones fell here and there, but managed to survive some apams in it. Hmmm not bad! Though the look is not tempting or appetising, but the taste is very nice. Maybe, for those who don't feel like taking up this challenge, can just stick to the normal way of steaming apam...in the cup! Here's the recipe if you care to try...Oppsss...where's my manners!!! Thank you my dear Erna and her mother in law for sharing this recipe with all of us.



APAM ICE CREAM

Ingredients
:

3 cups flour ~ sifted
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup ice-cream soda
(I used Sprite. You can also use 7Up)
1 teaspoon rose essence
few drops of red coloring
few drops of yellow coloring
enough paper cones (5.5 inches x 4 inches)

Method :

1. Prepare the steamer and the paper cones.
2. Beat eggs and sugar till light and fluffy.
3. Fold in the sifted flour.
4. Pour in the icecream soda/Sprite/7Up and rose essence. Fold lightly.
5. Add a few drops of red coloring into a quarter of the mixture and the balance, add the yellow coloring.
6. Place the paper cones into the holes of the steamer.
7. Spoon some yellow mixture into the cones and top it up with the red mixture.
8. Steam for 15 minutes.

Bahan-bahan
:

3 cawan tepung gandum
4 biji telur
2 cawan gula pasir
3/4 cawan ice-cream soda
1 sudu essence rose
sedikit pewarna merah
keroncot kertas secukupnya (5.5 in x 4 in)

Kaedah penyediaan :

1. Pukul telur + gula hingga kembang
2. Masuk tepung dan kacau sebati
3. Masuk ice cream soda + essence rose. Kacau sebati.
4. 1/4 adunan warna merah, yg selebihnya biar kuning.
5. Masukkan keroncot/kelongsong/kon kertas ke dalam lubang kukusan.
6. Tuang adunan kuning kemudian merah.
7. Kukus 15 min.
